Person killed in conveyor belt accident at BoP factory

A person has died after an accident in a Bay of Plenty factory.

The accident happened at 12pm on July 27 at Ballance Agrinutrients Mount Maunganui operations site on Hewletts Rd.

Police and other emergency services attended the incident at the company which produces fertiliser and other products for the agriculture industry.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed the fatality to Stuff.

“With deep sadness, we can confirm that this incident has resulted in a fatality. Our hearts go out to our team member’s whanau, friends, and colleagues.

We are working closely with Worksafe and police, who are on site, as they review the incident and we hope to know more soon.”

Police were called to the site just before midday, a police spokesperson said.

“Sadly, one person died at the scene. The matter will be referred to WorkSafe and the Coroner.”

The Mount Operations site is closed to until further notice.
